Dilip Kumar was born Muhammad Yusuf Khan on December 11, 1922, in Peshawar, British India (now Pakistan). His father was a fruit merchant, and his mother was a religious woman.

Kumar began his acting career in 1944 with the film "Jwar Bhata." He went on to star in over 60 films, including some of the most iconic Indian films of all time, such as "Mughal-e-Azam" (1960), "Devdas" (1955), and "Naya Daur" (1957).

Personal Life

Kumar was married to actress Saira Banu in 1966. The couple had no children.

Kumar was a private person who rarely gave interviews or made public appearances. He was known for his humility and his dedication to his craft.

Legacy

Kumar is considered one of the greatest Indian actors of all time. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor, in 2015.
