Supreme Court of India Organises Special Lok Adalat, Training Programme

Training Programme for Registry Officials

The Supreme Court of India organised a training programme for registry officials of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

The programme was aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of the Sri Lankan officials in court administration and management.

  • Topics covered in the programme included:
  • Case management
  • Record keeping
  • Judicial ethics

The programme was conducted by senior officials of the Supreme Court of India and was attended by 10 registry officials from Sri Lanka.

Special Lok Adalat

The Supreme Court of India also organised a special Lok Adalat, a type of alternative dispute resolution forum, to address pending cases.

The Lok Adalat was held in collaboration with the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and was presided over by a bench of three judges.

The Lok Adalat was successful in resolving a large number of cases, including:

  • Motor accident claims
  • Family disputes
  • Consumer complaints

The Lok Adalat is part of the Supreme Court's efforts to reduce the backlog of cases and provide speedy justice to citizens.

About the Supreme Court of India

The Supreme Court of India, also known as the Supreme Court of India ISO Bhārata kā Sarvōcca Nyāyālaya, is the supreme judicial authority and the highest court of the Republic of India.

It is the final court of appeal for all cases arising from the lower courts in India.

The Supreme Court was established on 26 January 1950, the day the Constitution of India came into effect.

Functions of the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has a wide range of functions and powers, including:

  • Interpreting the Constitution of India and settling disputes between the central government and the state governments
  • Protecting the fundamental rights of citizens
  • Deciding on the validity of laws passed by Parliament and state legislatures
  • Reviewing the decisions of the lower courts

The Supreme Court is also the guardian of the Indian Constitution and ensures that the fundamental rights of citizens are upheld.
