WEB MILWAUKEE – The Minnesota Timberwolves have made a move to address their bench scoring needs ahead of Thursday's NBA trade deadline, acquiring guard Monte Morris from the Detroit Pistons.
The Timberwolves sent Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr., and a 2030 second-round pick to the Pistons in exchange for Morris, a veteran point guard known for his efficient scoring and playmaking ability.
Morris has averaged 9.7 points and 4.8 assists per game this season for the Pistons, shooting 46.1% from the field and 39.6% from three-point range. He provides the Timberwolves with a reliable scoring option off the bench, something they have lacked at times this season.
The Timberwolves' acquisition of Morris is part of a larger strategy to improve their team heading into the second half of the season. They previously traded D'Angelo Russell in a three-team deal that brought in Utah Jazz guard Mike Conley, addressing their need for a more experienced and reliable point guard.
The moves made by the Timberwolves reflect their commitment to building a contending team around Rudy Gobert, whom they acquired in a blockbuster trade last summer. By adding Morris and Conley, the Timberwolves have strengthened their bench and added experience to their backcourt, giving them a better chance of success in the playoffs.
